  23.  Well, as the original post said the Short Message Service (SMS) is
  24. available from the GSM Cellular Phone Network. GSM is IMHO not available
  25. in any Northamerican state - in short, it is a digital system that allows
  26. data/fax @ 9600 bps, SMS and of course plain audio. You'll find GSM
  27. operators in most European states within the European Union, along with
  28. parts of Australia, Hongkong and South Africa (I believe).

  30.  So where does this leave the US? Uhm, please correct me if I'm wrong,
  31. but you guys will have the GSM system in a "near future" but on non-GSM
  32. frequencies - this will be known as PDN1800 or _something_ like that
  33. ("Personal Digital Network" on the 1800 MHz band). In short, the PDN
  34. net (or whatever it is called) will feature the GSM services including
  35. SMS - I recall reading something about PDN being tested in Washington DC.
